Kevin Álvarez is back. The América defender has regained his starting spot in André Jardine's team, a position he had lost two tournaments ago when he was barely considered by the Brazilian coach.
In an interview with Fox Sports, the right-back spoke about the challenging months he faced at América, dealing with injuries and not meeting expectations.
"Only my family knows what I went through and what I did to be where I am now," he said. "I never let myself be affected by what was said outside. People might have thought I was distracted or under too much pressure, that it was too big for me. But in the end, I never let that affect me. I'm not immune, it does hurt, but what frustrated me the most was the injury."
Álvarez, who has once again become an important figure at América in their pursuit of a fourth consecutive Liga MX title, spoke about his future goals both at the club level and with the Mexican national team, where he hopes to make a return.
"The fact of returning, playing in the Liguilla, scoring in the final, being a three-time champion, took a weight off my shoulders," he said. "Continuing to make history here, returning to the Mexican national team, and going to Europe."

Álvarez lost his starting spot at Club América during the Apertura 2023 after a season start in which he couldn’t perform at the expected level. In that tournament, the right-back failed to maintain the consistency that had characterized his early months with the team and suffered some injuries that affected his performance.
He fought to regain his starting spot for the Clausura 2024, but an injury prevented him from playing in the entire Liguilla, in which América won the back-to-back championship by defeating Cruz Azul.

Álvarez has only played 15 matches with the Mexican national team. The former Pachuca player was included by Gerardo "Tata" Martino in the squad for the 2022 World Cup, where he played in the matches against Argentina and Saudi Arabia.
His most recent appearance for El Tri was in a 2023 friendly against Uzbekistan, which ended in a 3-3 draw, with Jaime Lozano as the coach.
